The Rock's Chief Minister Fabian Picardo dedicated his speech at the UN in New York on decolonisation to Mr Eade, describing him as a "political journalist, socialist and friend.” Mr Eade, who died on June 14 aged 65, had written the Gibraltar Viewpoint column since 1993 for various publications as well as for his internet blogs. His websites Discover Cadiz and Discover Gib were also popular attracting more than 100,000 visits a month. Gibraltar Viewpoint was recognised as the longest running, and probably most widely read, column on Gibraltar. He started writing it soon after arriving in Spain more than 20 years ago. Most recently he was still writing for the Gibraltar daily Panorama right up to his untimely death in La Linea. He had made his home in Jimena de la Frontera
